The 5-Second Test
When someone lands on your Instagram profile, they make a decision in about 5 seconds: follow or leave. Your bio is doing most of the heavy lifting in that decision.
And yet, most bios are wasting this precious real estate with vague descriptions, too many emojis, or worse — nothing at all.
The Anatomy of a High-Converting Bio
Line 1: What You Do (Clear & Specific)
Bad: "Entrepreneur | Dreamer | Coffee Lover" Good: "Helping founders raise their first ₹1 Cr"
Line 2: Who You Help
Bad: "Content for everyone" Good: "For D2C founders scaling to ₹10 Cr"
Line 3: Why Follow (The Value Proposition)
Bad: "Living my best life" Good: "Daily fundraising tips + startup lessons"
Line 4: Call to Action
Bad: (no CTA) Good: "Free pitch deck template below 👇"
Common Bio Mistakes to Avoid
1. Too many emojis — One or two for visual breaks is fine. A wall of emojis looks unprofessional.
2. Vague job titles — "Consultant" tells me nothing. "Brand consultant for celebrity chefs" tells me everything.
3. No CTA — If you're not telling people what to do next, they won't do anything.
4. Link in bio anxiety — Using link-in-bio tools with 50 options. Pick one clear action you want people to take.
Bio Templates That Convert
For Coaches/Consultants:
"[Specific outcome] for [specific audience]
[Credential or proof point]
[What they'll get by following]
[CTA] 👇"
For Founders:
"Building [company] — [one-line description]
Previously: [credibility marker]
[Content promise]
[CTA]"
For Creators:
"[Niche] content for [audience]
[Proof point: followers, features, etc.]
New [content type] every [frequency]
[CTA]"
The Test
After reading your bio, can someone answer these three questions?
1. What do you do?
2. Who do you help?
3. Why should I follow you?
If not, it's time for a rewrite.
